The European Commission’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) has allocated €16 million in funding to support WHO’s work to boost COVID-19 vaccination campaigns and increase coverage in 15 African countries.

Over the course of 18 months, the funds will support operational and technical aspects of the vaccine roll-out. They will help to reinforce the capacity of health workers to plan, coordinate and deploy vaccines, as well as monitor and document the results of the roll-out.

Efforts are ongoing to scale up COVID-19 vaccination coverage in Africa, where only 15% of the population has been vaccinated.
