Continental Tires Selected as Original Equipment for the New smart #5

All-electric SUV comes factory-equipped with EcoContact 7

Hanover, Germany, March 10, 2026. Continental has been selected as an original-equipment tire supplier for the new smart #5. The largest smart vehicle to date will be fitted with the Continental EcoContact 7 in sizes 255/45 R20 and 255/40 R21 as standard – for improved range and confident all-road capabilities. Both versions of the premium summer tire are approved for speeds up to 240 km/h and feature the XL marking for increased load capacity.

The EcoContact 7 is an efficient tire solution, combining low energy loss with high mileage. Inspired by the surface of a golf ball, the tire is highly aerodynamic. Its specially designed sidewall, featuring the so-called aerodimple structure, reduces air turbulence behind the tire. This means the vehicle uses less energy to keep moving. In addition, newly developed materials in the tire carcass, inner layer and sidewall reduce internal friction and thus lower rolling resistance. The EcoContact 7 also benefits from an adapted rubber compound designed to enhance energy efficiency.

The tire also features Continental‘s newly developed silent pattern tread design, which reduces rolling noise, especially in urban traffic. It is precisely tuned to the frequencies typically occurring at speeds around 50 km/h.

The combination of exceptional efficiency, high mileage and low rolling noise makes the EcoContact 7 an ideal tire for electric vehicles.
