UltraContact NXT tops sustainable summer tire test

- Continental tire has a share of up to 65 percent renewable, recycled and ISCC PLUS mass balance certified materials

- Andreas Schlenke:

With the UltraContact NXT, we have succeeded in combining outstanding sustainability with first-class performance

Hanover, Germany, March 13, 2025. The UltraContact NXT, Continental's most sustainable passenger car tire to date, took first place in this year's test of sustainable, fuel-saving summer tires conducted by auto motor und sport (issue 07/25). The editors tested a total of six tire models from international manufacturers in size 215/55 R 17 in nine driving disciplines and three sustainability categories.

UltraContact NXT: Shortest wet braking distance

The UltraContact NXT impresses in the driving disciplines with its

shortest braking distances and safe, balanced handling in the wet

. It also shines with its extremely safe understeer handling with high cornering stability on dry tarmac and low rolling resistance. The UltraContact NXT also came out on top in the "Sustainable Production" category thanks to its high share of renewable, recycled and ISCC Plus mass balance certified materials.

Safety, performance and sustainability are always at the forefront of our tire development. The result in the auto motor und sport performance test shows that with the UltraContact NXT we have succeeded in combining outstanding sustainability with first-class performance,

says Continental tire expert Andreas Schlenke.

UltraContact NXT: An Innovative Combination of Sustainability and Performance

With up to 65% renewable, recycled and mass balance certified materials, the UltraContact NXT combines a high level of sustainable materials with maximum safety and performance. All 19 sizes have the best EU tire label ("A") rating for rolling resistance, wet braking and external noise.

The UltraContact NXT contains up to 32 percent renewable raw materials. This includes resins based on residual materials from the paper and wood industries and silicate from the ash of rice husks. Up to five percent is recycled material, such as recycled steel or polyester from recycled PET bottles, which otherwise would have ended up in incinerators or landfills.

Continental uses up to 28 percent ISCC PLUS mass balance certified materials. These are sustainable synthetic rubber and carbon black made from biobased, bio-circular and/or circular feedstock.

UltraContact NXT has already won several awards since its launch, including the Sustainability Award at the Swiss Automotive Show Innovation Awards 2023, the International Design Award 2023, the German Innovation Award 2024 and the CLEPA Innovation Award 2024.
