About MONALISA project
The MONALISA project (MONitoring and Assessing
prevention and restoration soLutIons to
combat deSertificAtion), an Innovation Action
Horizon project aimed at preventing and reversing Land Degradation and
Desertification (LDD) across Mediterranean drylands, has started with
the Kick-off Meeting hosted by the coordinator organisation Università degli
Studi di Sassari (UNISS) in Sassari, Italy. The project is funded under the
Horizon Europe program under the topic HORIZON-MISS-2023-SOIL-01-04. The
Granting Authority for this project is the European Research Executive Agency
(REA), under the European Commission. The development of the MONALISA
project and solutions will be carried out in 6 Mediterranean Case Studies – Los
Pedroches, Spain; Médenine, Tunisia; Berchidda-Monti, Italy; Alta Murgia Park,
Italy; Asterousia, Greece; and Beit Dajan, Palestine. The solution groups
that are being assessed, replicated and expanded are nature-based (e.g. natural
ecosystem and agro-ecological restoration practices) and high-tech solutions (e.g.
innovative grazing systems, organic fertilisers/amendments and microbial-based
solutions, conservation agriculture practices, water-related solutions – water
harvesting techniques and treated wastewater reuse in agriculture).
