Bari, 21–22 October 2025 – CIHEAM Bari hosted two key events under the MONALISA project, focused on advancing efforts to combat land degradation and desertifi cation in the Mediterranean region. On 21 October, the Clustering Workshop brought together projects funded under the EU Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe” and PRIMA programme, fostering cross-project dialogue and collaboration. The event saw the participation of collaborative projects including BIOservicES, InBestSoil, and SALAM-MED, as well as EcoFuture, TUdi, SoilWise, EARTHONE, REACT4MED, SoilTribes, and LivingSoiLL. The discussion highlighted a clear shared vision among participants to build an interoperable, ethical, and policy-relevant ecosystem that connects science, governance, and open data, supporting sustainable and lasting land restoration across Europe and the Mediterranean.
This was followed on 22 October by the MONALISA Consortium’s First General Assembly.
The Clustering Workshop provided a dynamic platform for exchanging insights, identifying shared challenges, and exploring synergies among Mission Soil initiatives.. Discussions emphasized the importance of connecting scientifi c research with public policy and local practices to promote sustainable land management.
Participants also emphasized the importance of promoting an integrated approach to land management, enhancing stakeholder participation, and fostering transparency and ethics in project governance.
During the General Assembly, MONALISA partners consolidated their shared vision and outlined next steps centered on cooperation, knowledge sharing, and networking of initiatives across the Mediterranean. Participants also reaffi rmed their commitment to transparency, ethics, and inclusive governance.
Together, these two days marked a signifi cant milestone for MONALISA, reinforcing its role in building a resilient and sustainable framework for land restoration and ecosystem health in the Mediterranean region.
